District Webmaster

Two words: the Internet.

There are over one and a half million Internet users in today's world. There are dozens of Internet Service Providers in the state of New Jersey, and hundreds of WiFi hotspots. The Internet in 2009 is a tremendous part of society, and I am honored to serve as the New Jersey District Webmaster for 2009-2010.

My meddling in the World Wide Web began long ago. Even since elementary school, I have been fiddling with computers, and obviously this has not stopped. Zoom forward a few years--for the past service year, I served as Editor for the Brick Memorial High School Key Club. Last year, we started a club website (that was awarded at District Convention). As a result of my work at Brick Memorial, service has become so important in my life. Key Club is not just some after-school service club: Key Club is a twenty-four hour per day activity. I think about Key Club in the morning, the afternoon, and the evening; I inhale Key Club and I exhale Key Club; I dream about Key Club at night (not nightmares, honestly).

Of course, there is more to life than Key Club (blasphemy!). I am also an active member of Brick Memorial's Math Team, National Honor Society, and Checkers Club, which I helped to found. Some of my passions include math, science, politics, and of course, web design and computer programming.

That said, we have a big year ahead of us in the New Jersey District. As District Webmaster, I hope to make significant progress in the technology use of the District. Some of my most obtainable goals include:
  • Making the website clear, useful, informative, interactive, and living. If the website is the right combination of these things, it will reach its greatest potential.
  • Working with the Board to make information more open and accessible to club officers, advisors, and general members. This will include working with the District Editor to publish the Jersey Key on the web in an online-newspaper fashion and ensuring the publication of all District forms, packets, fliers etc.
  • Encouraging Board members (especially Lieutenant Governors) to establish web presence. Lieutenant Governors often promise to increase communication within their divisions; a website is a great way to accomplish this goal.
  • Encouraging clubs around the District to create websites.
  • Enhancing the usage of multimedia to promote the District. This will include working closely with the new Public Relations committee.
I can't wait to get started! As stated, one of my interests is mathematics. For that reason, I close with an equation:

New Jersey Key Club + Technology + Passion = A great year!

Yours in Caring and Service,
Tim Mickel
District Webmaster
