The District Project
The New Jersey District of Key Club International is proud to announce that we have chosen the Eliminate Project as our District Project for the 2012-2013 service year.
With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have teamed up to rid the world of maternal and neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes, that's nearly 60,000 newborns a year. MNT causes excruciating pain to newborns, while the mother can only stand nearby and watch their baby cry out in pain.
To eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the Earth, 129 million mothers and babies must be immunized. To cover the cost of vaccines, syringes, and other costs, the Kiwanis Family and UNICEF will need to r aise $110 million, and we're planning on doing so by 2015.
Last year, our fundraising goal was $79,180.38. In an amazing effort by our district, we beat this goal by over $20,000! So this year, we're reaching even higher.
Our fundraising goal for this is $100,602.23
- 100 - For the 100 million mothers that still need vaccinations.
- 60 - For the 60 thousand mothers and infants that die each year from MNT.
- 2 - For the 2 powerful organizations, the Kiwanis Family and UNICEF working together to eliminate MNT.
- 23 - For the 23 amazing divisions in the New Jersey District joining together to eliminate MNT.
