Child Health: The Need
Todayʼs kids are leading sedentary lives, “super-sizing,” watching too much television, becoming best friends with their computers and learning about life on the Internet, losing the joy of play, ordering soft drinks instead of milk, and developing habits that can be
disastrous to their health down the road.
Key Club can make a difference by bringing projects and service to kids. Together, we can give a high five for health!
The focus areas of the service initiative are: Nutrition, Wellness, and Play.
Connect the Three
A key area of High Five for Health is understanding that all three initiatives are connected. If you donʼt have a good diet, and donʼt get enough sleep, all the play in the world wonʼt matter. You simply wonʼt have the energy to play to your best potential! And if you donʼt understand what it means to have healthy habits, your nutrition wonʼt improve.
You see, Key Club members are committed to helping kids lead a better, stronger, happier life! At least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week is the
recommended minimum. However, nearly 23 percent of children1 and nearly 40 percent of adults get no free-time physical activity at all. (National Center for Health Statistics.)
