UNICEF is the Fall Season of Service and we have a new focus! Swaziland is a small, landlocked country in Southern Africa between South Africa in the west and Mozambique in the east. Approximately 75 percent of Swaziland's orphans and vulnerable children do not have access to care, support, and basic services. UNICEF is working with Swaziland's communities to care for the country's children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. At UNICEF-supported Neighborhood Care Points, community volunteers provide young children affected by HIV/AIDS with care, protection, nutritious meals, and a chance to learn and play . A Neighborhood Care Point (NCP) is run by communities in easily accessible sites . NCPs focus on young children, enabling older children to attend school and leave younger siblings in a safe place. Key Club members can provide supplies (cooking materials, educational materials, health/hygiene products) or help raise money. Our district has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $40,000 for the 2007-2008 year! |
